The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has officially approved India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games during a unanimous decision at its Special General Meeting. The bid positions Ahmedabad as the lead host city, while keeping Delhi and Bhubaneswar as possible alternatives. India aims to submit the final bid dossier by August 31, 2025.
Crucially, this edition of the Games promises to be fully inclusive, reinstating all medal‑earning sports—including core disciplines like hockey, badminton, wrestling, shooting, archery, table tennis, squash, and women’s cricket—which were excluded from the 2026 Glasgow edition for budgetary reasons. India also plans to spotlight its traditional sports such as kabaddi and kho‑kho.
A recent visit by Commonwealth Sports officials, headed by Games Director Darren Hall, helped refine India’s proposal with strong government backing, robust infrastructure plans, and a focus on sustainability, gender balance, and legacy planning. These elements align with the CGF’s new roadmap and the UN’s sustainable development goals.
With Canada stepping back and limited competition emerging, India is seen as a strong contender for the 2030 CWG. The final decision will be announced at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow this November, potentially marking a major milestone toward India’s larger vision—including a bid for the 2036 Olympic Games.
