The Indian government has approved about 4.5 lakh houses for Telangana under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Union minister G. Kishan Reddy announced. This move aims to support affordable housing across the state and help families secure pucca homes. The houses will be built under both rural and urban segments, with a total estimated budget of around ₹4,350 crore.
Under the scheme, rural and urban poor can get financial help to build or improve homes that meet basic standards. The plan is part of the government’s broader goal of housing for all, tackling shelter shortages and raising living standards. The housing units will be provided through a combination of central funds and state implementation.
Officials say the scheme also supports women, economically weaker sections, and vulnerable groups, helping more families gain secure homes. The move is expected to create jobs in construction and boost local economies. Telangana housing officials will now start planning the distribution and construction of these houses. The approved 4.5 lakh homes mark a major step in the state’s housing infrastructure growth and will contribute to better living conditions in both rural and urban areas.
