Andhra Pradesh officials have rolled out an innovative RTI awareness drive featuring district-wide essay, poster, and quiz competitions aimed at promoting the Right to Information Act. These contests are being organized by district administrations and the State Information Commission as part of ongoing efforts to foster transparency in governance and build civic literacy.
Each contest encourages active participation from students, academicians, and local residents, with themes centered on how to file an RTI, citizens’ rights, and government accountability. By combining educational workshops and creative competition formats, the initiative aims to make the concept of RTI more relatable and actionable.
Officials believe this interactive approach will significantly boost RTI awareness among youth and marginalized communities, addressing the persistent issue of low awareness and high pendency of RTI applications across the state. Previous measures like designating the third Friday of every month as RTI Day, workshops in law colleges, and community camps have enhanced knowledge outreach, yet awareness gaps remain.
This campaign aligns with broader national transparency goals by empowering citizens to demand information, seek accountability, and actively engage with public institutions. If successful, the contest model could be replicated across other states to strengthen citizen use of the RTI Act.
