Andhra Pradesh is set to accelerate its maritime transformation by establishing a major shipbuilding and repair cluster at Dugarajapatnam in Nellore district. Spanning 2,000 acres, the integrated maritime facility will allocate 1,000 acres for core shipbuilding units and another 1,000 for auxiliary industries. Central funding of ₹3,500 crore, coupled with state land equity, will support construction of a greenfield port featuring four dry docks, outfitting jetties, and a ship‑lift facility.
The project is projected to attract ₹26,000 crore in investments and generate around 35,000 jobs—5,000 directly in shipbuilding and 30,000 in ancillary sectors. A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be formed to engage leading global shipbuilders, including Imabari Shipbuilding of Japan, and South Korea’s HD KSOE and Hanwha Ocean.
Aligned with India’s broader strategy to boost coastal industrialisation and the Make in India initiative, Andhra Pradesh is issuing Expressions of Interest (EoI) to global firms for sustainable shipbuilding, maritime decarbonization, and repair facilities. The scheme includes incentives like expedited clearances, fiscal support, and logistics infrastructure.
The ambitious maritime project reinforces AP’s long-term vision of a port-led economy leveraging its 1,053 km coastline, reinforcing cargo movement through Visakhapatnam Port, and positioning the state as a key player in India’s maritime growth.
