CMD K. Santosh Rao confirmed that the project is fully financed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and approved by the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission in February 2021.
He clarified that neither installation nor monthly billing will feature extra costs for smart meter users. Instead, smart meters enhance billing transparency, enable real‑time consumption tracking via the official app, and send timely usage alerts—empowering consumers to better manage electricity usage.
To support consumer confidence, APSPDCL is conducting awareness campaigns explaining the features and benefits of smart meters. The initiative targets commercial and government services initially, before expanding to high-usage residential connections.
