Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has revealed a new welfare initiative called Auto Drivers Sevalo, set to roll out from October 4. This scheme will provide ₹15,000 per year to each eligible auto, cab, and maxi‐cab driver in the state. Around 2.90 lakh drivers are expected to benefit, with the state allocating ₹435 crore for this effort.
Naidu explained the scheme during a session in the state legislature. He noted that the previous government offered only ₹12,000 annually to drivers. This fresh move aims to ease financial stress, especially since a free bus travel scheme for women has reduced demand for autorickshaws. Under Auto Drivers Sevalo, funds will be directly credited to driver bank accounts.
He also stressed unity among party legislators, urging them to set aside personal agendas and work together for development. Beyond this, Naidu highlighted other welfare programmes, including the NTR Bharosa pension, Stree Shakti free bus travel, and support for farmers and students. The new scheme is part of the “Super Six” promises the government pledged and signals a renewed commitment to lifting the state’s marginalized workers.
This aid is poised to bring relief to many drivers who face shrinking earnings. By combining direct cash support with existing social welfare programmes, the state aims for inclusive growth.
