Avantel Limited, a Hyderabad-based technology firm, and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on developing indigenous satellite communication technology for aircraft. The pact was formalised at Wings India 2026, a major aerospace and defence event held in Hyderabad.
The collaboration aims to design and develop advanced satellite communication (satcom) systems, high-frequency (HF) communication solutions and avionics equipment for use in defence aircraft. These technologies are crucial for secure and reliable communication in military and strategic operations.
Under the agreement, Avantel and HAL will share expertise and resources to build technologies that reduce dependence on foreign imports. The partnership aligns with India’s push for self-reliant defence technology and Atmanirbhar Bharat goals.
The MoU was signed by senior representatives of HAL’s Strategic Electronics R&D Centre (SLRDC) and Avantel in the presence of HAL leadership. The move is expected to strengthen India’s aerospace communications ecosystem and support evolving defence requirements.
Experts say this pact could lead to more indigenous communication solutions for aircraft, benefiting the nation’s strategic capabilities and expanding local defence tech development.
