As Barfi! approaches its 13th anniversary, Priyanka Chopra took fans on a heartfelt journey down memory lane with a nostalgic Instagram post. She described her transformative path to embodying Jhilmil—revealing that director Anurag Basu initially doubted her fit for the role. That led to an intensive five-day workshop, where Chopra delved into research, watched videos, and met children on the autism spectrum. To push her boundaries, Basu even asked her to hurl Hindi expletives at him—a moment she recalled as “hilarious, liberating,” and pivotal in creating Jhilmil.

Chopra also revealed that many pivotal scenes were improvised, highlighting the creative freedom and collaboration that shaped the film. She fondly reflected that Barfi! remains one of her most treasured films, not just for the character but for the camaraderie of the team, cinematographer Ravi Varman’s visual poetry, and the joy of shared challenges on set.

Adding to the acclaim, actor Prithviraj Sukumaran recently hailed Chopra’s Jhilmil as “one of the finest performances in Indian cinema in the past 25 years,” emphasizing how she deeply brought honesty, nuance, and emotional depth to the role.
