A low‑pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to continue producing heavy rainfall across north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh from August 17 through 19. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h across coastal regions, Yanam, and parts of Rayalaseema. Among affected areas, Kukunoor in Eluru district recorded 7 cm of rainfall—the highest in the state—while other districts saw between 1 cm and 6 cm of precipitation. As this monsoon rain breaks, areas like Visakhapatnam experienced a welcome drop in temperature, alleviating previously high rainfall deficits. From June 1 to August 16, Andhra Pradesh has received 297.3 mm of rainfall, closely matching the seasonal average of 298.8 mm. The continued downpours are expected to enhance groundwater recharge, benefit agricultural sowing, and reduce monsoon deficit concerns. Residents and farmers are advised to remain alert to local advisories and prepare for potential flooding or disruptive weather conditions.
