Cyclone Montha swept through Andhra Pradesh, leaving severe damage in its wake. Initial assessments show the state’s power infrastructure suffered losses of around ₹2,200 crore. The storm impacted power poles, lines, substations and transformers across the region.
Officials say three major power distribution companies reported heavy damage: uprooted poles, snapped 11 kV and 33 kV feeders, and damaged distribution transformers. The storm’s strong winds and rains amplified the destruction by weakening support structures and flooding electrical sites. Restoration teams have been deployed in large numbers.
The government is working round-the-clock to restore power supply and clear debris. While crews battle the damage, the full impact across all districts remains under review. Authorities emphasise that safe and quick restoration is critical to reduce further hardship for residents and businesses. With power infrastructure in many coastal and inland areas badly hit, recovery efforts are expected to cost and take considerable time.
