The Archaeological Survey of India has successfully concluded a major conservation project at the ancient Draksharamam Temple, one of the revered Pancharama Kshetras in Andhra Pradesh. Dating back to the 9th–10th century, this Dravidian-style Bhimeswara Swamy Temple has undergone meticulous restoration using time-tested heritage materials and craftsmanship. Efforts included structural reinforcement, renovation of intricate carvings, and preservation of its dual-storeyed shrine and iconic gopurams. ASI’s intervention ensures the temple’s stability and vibrancy, safeguarding its cultural legacy and architectural heritage. Located in the scenic Konaseema district, Draksharamam attracts pilgrims and tourists drawn to its sacred Jyotirlinga status and proximity to the Godavari River. The reopening marks a renewed chapter in promoting temple tourism, enhancing spiritual experiences while encouraging community engagement. ASI’s successful restoration sets a precedent for preserving India’s ancient temples, ensuring they remain living heritage sites for future generations to appreciate and cherish.
