A Farmers’ Forum in Andhra Pradesh staged a passionate protest targeting President Trump’s trade overtures, demanding a complete ban on corporate participation in agriculture. They cautioned that trade agreements and pressure from American agribusiness could severely undermine India’s food sovereignty and marginalize smallholder farmers.
Farmers, activists, and local leaders participated in the demonstration, voicing strong opposition to any trade deal that includes the agriculture, dairy, or poultry sectors. They warned that foreign corporations, backed by massive subsidies, would flood Indian markets with cheap imports, threatening livelihoods and destabilizing rural economies.
The forum stressed that agriculture must be kept outside all Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), to ensure the protection of local farmers, ensure fair pricing, and preserve traditional farming models. Their message was clear: India’s trade policies must prioritize the interests of its farming communities, not global corporate profit motives.
