Renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, recipient of the Padma Bhushan, has announced Warlord, a cutting-edge AI-generated sci-fi series, in partnership with Mumbai-based Studio Blo. The series merges science fiction, fantasy, and romance to explore themes beyond time, space, and consciousness. The recently released teaser captures breathtaking scenes: a giant jellyfish-shaped spaceship hovering over an alien world, a glowing woman transforming into energy, and a mysterious figure observing it all.
Kapur describes Warlord as a “living universe” built entirely with GenAI, enabling creators worldwide to collaborate, expand, remix, and contribute to the narrative. Unique to the project is an open-source IP model—designs and characters are made available to global contributors at just one cent per use, on the condition that derivative works remain open source.
Studio Blo co-founder Dipankar Mukherjee emphasized that Kapur’s vision demanded reinvention—ranging from creating an entire AI-led series to pioneering distributed ownership. Kapur’s role extends to guiding the studio’s AI ethics and creative stewardship, ensuring responsible yet innovative AI storytelling.
With Warlord, Kapur aims to democratize storytelling, empowering global creators to dream collectively. The series also represents a radical shift in how cinematic narratives can be conceived, created, and shared—and signals the start of an AI-led cinematic multiverse.
