ACME Group is doubling down on clean steel production. The company will invest ₹5,000 crore to build a green DRI facility capable of producing 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green hot‑briquetted iron (HBI) and green direct reduced iron (GRI). These inputs are key for making green steel with much lower carbon emissions.
This new project aims to produce some of the lowest‑carbon steel‑making materials in the market. ACME’s chairman says the plants will follow clean technology norms to reduce emissions. The facility’s location is still being finalized — either within India or in Oman — likely near one of ACME’s existing sites.
ACME is not new to green energy. It already has major green hydrogen plans, including a large hydrogen facility in Odisha, and is building another in Oman. These tie in with the new steel project, since green hydrogen is essential for producing green DRI.
By linking renewable energy, green hydrogen, and steel, ACME seeks to lower carbon intensity across hard‑to‑abate sectors. If approved and built soon, the green HBI/GRI plant could help India move toward its sustainability and net‑zero goals. The investment positions ACME as a key player in the green steel revolution.
