In Andhra Pradesh, APHA President Srinivasa Rao has called on the state government to grant industry status to the hospitality sector, arguing it is essential for the hotel industry to thrive. He emphasized that only with industry designation can hotels access incentives, better financial support, infrastructure benefits, and regulatory clarity. According to Rao, providing the hospitality segment with industry status would encourage investment, job creation, and modernization across hotels, resorts, and tourism services in the state.
Rao pointed out that currently the hospitality sector is treated under general service categories, which limits its ability to compete with fully recognized industries. He argued that industry status would unlock access to subsidies, tax breaks, infrastructure support, and easier credit—factors crucial to scaling operations, upgrading amenities, and attracting new entrants. For the hotel industry to flourish and serve the burgeoning tourism demand, Rao said, structural reforms are imperative.
He also urged collaboration among stakeholders—hoteliers, investors, and the government—to push this agenda, noting that a recognized industry classification would boost Andhra Pradesh’s brand as a tourism destination. If granted, the move could pave the way for sustainable growth in hospitality, helping small and large hotel operators alike to expand, upgrade, and compete nationally.
