Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) is gearing up for major growth, driven by technology shifts and increasing passenger numbers, according to GHIAL CEO Pradeep Panicker. The airport has seen strong traffic growth, handling nearly 29 million passengers in the latest year and eyeing up to 50 million in the next five years as demand rises.
To keep up with the growth, GHIAL is investing in both digital technology and physical expansion. Recent upgrades include advanced systems like an AI-powered digital twin and Predictive Operations Centre (APOC) that help manage passenger flow, improve efficiency, and provide smoother travel experiences through real-time data and automation.
Expansion plans also focus on increasing capacity and infrastructure. The airport has already extended its terminal and is preparing enhancements to handle more flights and passengers. Cargo handling and new facilities are also part of future plans to support rapid air traffic growth and logistics operations.
Panicker emphasizes that blending smart technology with physical upgrades will make Hyderabad airport more efficient, reliable and ready for the future. These efforts aim to strengthen RGIA’s role as a major aviation hub in India, capable of handling evolving travel trends and expanding demand.
