Netflix has tapped Kevin Hart and John Cena to headline and produce an upcoming action-comedy titled The Leading Man, adapted from the acclaimed comic series by Jeremy Haun and B. Clay Moore. The early-development project, penned by writers Jon and Erich Hoeber, tells the story of a narcissistic movie star (Cena) who is forced to face reality when his co-star—“the man in the chair” (Hart)—reveals he’s a real secret agent. Together, they must set aside egos and work as an unlikely duo to prevent a global catastrophe.
Both Hart and Cena will co-produce under their production banners—Hart through his Hartbeat Productions in partnership with Netflix, and Cena alongside RK Films and Ignition Productions. Additional producing team members include Luke Kelly-Clyne, Bryan Smiley, Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Eric Gitter, Peter Schwerin, and Dan Baime, with the Hoeber brothers and Jeremy Haun also attached in producer roles.
This collaboration marks one of several star-led projects on Netflix, aiming to blend sharp comedy with blockbuster-style action. For fans of buddy-action comedies and comic-book adaptations, The Leading Man is shaping up to be a high-energy, must-watch streaming spectacle.
