L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd (LTEG), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has entered into a Joint Development Agreement with Japan’s ITOCHU Corporation to develop and commercialize a 300 KTPA green ammonia project at Kandla, Gujarat. The facility will produce low-carbon ammonia for maritime fuel, aligning with global decarbonization goals.
The partnership leverages L&T’s infrastructure and project development expertise alongside ITOCHU’s international reach and industry experience. ITOCHU plans to offtake the green ammonia for bunkering applications in Singapore, marking a significant step in advancing clean energy solutions for the maritime sector.
L&T had acquired a substantial land parcel at Kandla last year for the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia projects. This collaboration supports LTEG’s strategic vision to establish a presence across the green energy value chain and complements ITOCHU’s initiatives to introduce low-carbon ammonia as a zero-emission marine fuel.
The green ammonia project is part of India’s broader efforts to become a global leader in green hydrogen and its derivatives, aligning with the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s vision of a 5 MMTPA production capacity by 2030.
