Maruti Suzuki has standardized six airbags across all variants of the Baleno hatchback and Ertiga MPV, reinforcing its commitment to passenger safety in India. As part of its broader Safety Shield initiative, this upgrade extends to over 97% of Maruti’s lineup, ensuring even base variants now offer dual front, side, and curtain airbags. The move reinforces Maruti Suzuki’s reputation, previously criticized for limited safety features in entry‑level cars.
The Baleno and Ertiga now join other upgraded Arena models like WagonR, Alto K10, Celerio, Eeco, Swift, Brezza, XL6, and Fronx, which already offer six airbags as standard. While the update enhances car safety standards in India, it has also resulted in modest price hikes—approximately 0.5% increase for Baleno and up to 1.4% for Ertiga.
This change aligns with evolving regulatory safety norms in India, ahead of mandatory six‑airbag regulations expected by October 2025. It also helps Maruti stay competitive against rivals like Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra, who already emphasize advanced safety across models. With this upgrade, Maruti Baleno and Maruti Ertiga become stronger choices for safety-conscious buyers seeking value in the mass‑market segment.
