MetaMask has officially launched native Bitcoin support in its crypto wallet. With this update, users can now buy, send, receive, and swap Bitcoin (BTC) on the MetaMask platform. Before this change, users needed wrapped versions of Bitcoin or other tools to manage BTC. Now, Bitcoin operates inside the wallet like other major assets.
This move is part of MetaMask’s broader shift from a Ethereum-focused wallet to a true multi-chain wallet. The platform already supports assets like Ethereum, Solana, Sei, and Monad. Adding Bitcoin brings one of the world’s largest cryptocurrencies directly into the MetaMask interface.
To use Bitcoin in MetaMask, users must update to the latest wallet version. MetaMask currently supports native SegWit Bitcoin addresses at launch, and plans to add Taproot address support soon. MetaMask users can also earn rewards points when swapping into Bitcoin as part of the wallet’s community program.
This update makes it easier for millions of crypto users to manage diverse assets in one place. It reduces the need for multiple wallets and simplifies crypto management for both new and experienced users.
