In a welcome move for consumers, Andhra Pradesh’s Energy Minister has confirmed that the state will reduce power tariff by 13 paise per unit, in line with a recent order from the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC). The tariff cut is aimed at providing relief to households and industry alike, lowering electricity bills across consumer categories.

This reduction reflects the state government’s balancing act between sustaining the finances of power utilities and offering relief to consumers. By approving a “true-down” component in tariff revisions, APERC has enabled the downward adjustment. The move also signals responsiveness to public sentiment and demand for fair energy pricing.

Analysts believe that the 13 paise cut will modestly but meaningfully reduce monthly electricity costs, especially for high usage consumers. It is viewed as part of a broader tariff rationalization strategy that could include periodic revisions, demand‑side reforms, and revisions in additional charges like fuel and power purchase cost adjustments (FPPCA).

For power users across Andhra Pradesh, the new tariff order under APERC’s directive is expected to come into force soon, following procedural formalities. The state government has urged utility companies to ensure seamless implementation and pass on the full benefit to consumers without delay.
