The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (AP Congress) has welcomed the decision by the government to withdraw the mandatory pre-installation order for the Sanchar Saathi app. The party said the rollback marks a significant win for citizens’ privacy and digital freedom.
Sanchar Saathi, branded as a cyber-safety tool to track lost phones, block fraudulent connections, and curb scams, had drawn immediate backlash. Critics warned that forcing the app on every new smartphone — without user consent — could amount to surveillance. Civil-liberties concerns grew stronger after global smartphone makers and privacy groups voiced objections.
In response to the uproar, the government reversed course, calling the app optional. Users can now choose whether to install Sanchar Saathi. AP Congress described this change as “a victory for ordinary users,” saying that digital safety must not come at the cost of personal privacy. The party urged citizens to stay alert about future rules and stressed that any security tool should always respect user consent.
According to authorities, the app remains available for those who wish to use it — but will no longer be forced onto devices.
