Sant Kabir Award for AP Artisan: Venkatagiri Jamdani Sarees Gain National Honour

Three skilled weavers from Andhra Pradesh have earned national recognition by being selected for the National Handloom Awards 2024. Among them, Lakka Srinivasulu, a traditional handloom artisan from Venkatagiri in Tirupati district, will be honored with the prestigious Sant Kabir Award. Known for his exceptional craftsmanship in weaving Venkatagiri Jamdani sarees, Srinivasulu has preserved this intricate and historic weaving style for decades. His work reflects the richness of Indian handloom textiles and promotes sustainable, artisanal fashion rooted in cultural heritage. The National Handloom Awards, organized by the Ministry of Textiles, celebrate excellence in handloom artistry and commitment to traditional Indian weaves. The award ceremony will take place on August 7, observed as National Handloom Day, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. This recognition boosts the profile of Andhra Pradesh’s handloom legacy and brings national attention to India’s weaving communities who sustain ancient traditions with modern relevance.
