Andhra Pradesh is set to distribute smart ration cards to 1.46 crore families across the state from August 25 to 31, 2025, as confirmed by Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar. These QR code‑enabled smart cards, fashioned like ATM or debit cards, will feature the family head’s photograph and a unique code linking to a central database—marking a major overhaul in the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Designed to ensure security, accountability, and transparency, the smart ration cards eliminate manual errors and fraudulent duplication through real-time verification at fair price shops. Notably, these cards do not bear any political leader imagery, offering a clean, official design under the governing AP State Emblem.
The state has marked a high level of digital readiness, achieving around 96 percent e‑KYC completion, with exemptions for children under five and seniors above 80. After resolving over 15.3 lakh addition and deletion applications, the updated roster now supports roughly 4.3 crore beneficiaries under the PDS, including about 9.88 lakh new names.
Ration distribution will continue from the 1st to the 15th of each month at nearly 26,800 fair price shops, with doorstep delivery for eligible senior and differently‑abled pensioners. The launch of AP Smart Ration Card is a landmark step in digitalizing welfare delivery and reinforcing transparent governance.
