Andhra Pradesh’s major reservoirs are witnessing exceptionally high water levels thanks to continuous heavy monsoon inflows. The Srisailam Reservoir, fed by upstream catchments, has nearly reached its full reservoir level—recorded at 883 feet, just shy of its FRL of 885 feet, holding approximately 208.72 TMC (91%) of water. To manage the excess, authorities are maintaining significant water releases downstream.
Meanwhile, the Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir is also approaching capacity, storing around 283.59 TMC, or about 90.9% of its total (312 TMC). The vigorous inflows have prompted regulated gate openings to control levels and ensure safe irrigation discharge and hydropower generation.
Across Andhra Pradesh, reservoir storage now stands significantly above last year’s levels—with major reservoirs collectively at approximately 75.7% capacity (760 TMC) compared to 668 TMC at the same time a year ago. Officials anticipate that, with ongoing inflows, many reservoirs may reach full capacity by month-end, strengthening water security for agriculture and urban supply.
