Steel Exchange India Limited (SEIL), a prominent integrated steel maker from South India and the maker of SIMHADRI TMT, has announced a strategic collaboration with Vizag Profiles Logistics (VPL) and Hind Terminals (HTPL) to explore the development of a General Cargo Terminal (GCT) and Multi‑Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Visakhapatnam. This non-binding partnership aims to unlock cargo connectivity across inland rail, coastal shipping, and container train operations. SEIL brings its GCT rail‑siding infrastructure, VPL adds regional logistics capability, while HTPL contributes port-centric cargo handling expertise.
The proposal includes facilitating container train operations, coastal barge transport, and rail-based inland distribution for both general and steel cargo. By creating an integrated logistics ecosystem, SEIL aims to reduce transit times, lower costs, and expedite cargo throughput.
Though still in feasibility and pilot study phases, the plan marks SEIL’s strategic shift beyond traditional steel manufacturing into logistics infrastructure. SEIL’s Joint MD Suresh Kumar Bandi said the collaboration aligns with Visakhapatnam’s emergence as a logistics hub and enhances SEIL’s operational efficiency and long-term growth potential.
This initiative can strengthen SEIL’s role in supply‑chain optimization, increase utilization of logistics assets, and expand service capability for both SEIL and third-party cargo customers.
