The Stree Shakti free bus ride scheme in Andhra Pradesh is off to a remarkable start—within 30 hours of its August 15 launch, over 12 lakh women traveled fare-free across the state using APSRTC services . Beneficiaries saved an estimated ₹5 crore in transportation costs on the first day itself .
The scheme, part of the government’s Super Six welfare promises, covers nearly 74% of APSRTC buses—including Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, City Ordinary, Express, and Metro Express fleets—empowering women, girls, and transgender persons to travel safely and affordably across Andhra Pradesh
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and other officials are closely monitoring implementation and have even directed the extension of services to include ghat routes following beneficiary requests
With zero-fare tickets integrated into APSRTC’s digital ticketing system, the scheme promises real-time updates and smoother operations
This bold gender‑empowerment initiative, facilitating free public transport, marks a new chapter in enhancing women’s mobility, independence, and economic participation in the state.
