The Telangana municipal polls are shaping up with a strong presence of women candidates in the race. Ahead of the February 11 municipal voting, many towns and cities across the state have seen women dominate the nomination lists. In areas like the erstwhile Medak district, women filed more nomination papers than men, even beyond the reserved quota for female contestants. This trend shows rising gender inclusion and political participation among women in urban local bodies.

In the larger candidate pool for the upcoming civic elections, a significant number of those contesting are married and middle-aged, suggesting experienced and established residents are keen to serve in municipal leadership roles. This pattern also means that younger and single candidates are fewer in comparison. The overall mix of candidates reflects broader community involvement, with diverse backgrounds joining the polls.

Telangana is holding elections for 2,996 wards across 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations on February 11. The final list includes thousands of contestants from major political parties and independent groups. Voters are expected to shape local leadership in the state’s urban centres, with an especially strong focus on enhancing representation for women and experienced leaders.
