A major fire broke out on Saturday morning at the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Nampally, Hyderabad. The blaze began around 10:08 AM, spreading through parts of the first floor including the computer forensic lab, training hall, library and HRD room. Firefighters brought the fire under control by early afternoon.
Officials confirmed that no one was seriously injured. A police case has been registered and an investigation is under way to find the exact cause of the fire. Initial reports suggest a suspected short circuit might have triggered the blaze, but authorities are still examining the evidence.
FSL Director Shikha Goel addressed rising concerns that evidence from sensitive and high-profile cases, including the Note-for-Vote and phone tapping cases, may have been destroyed. She clarified that most material objects and forensic reports were already submitted to courts or returned to authorities before the fire. Remaining items were said to be safe and secure. Goel called rumours about destroyed evidence unverified and misleading and stressed that retrieval and data recovery efforts are underway where needed.
The lab continues to operate in unaffected areas. Police and fire officials are assessing the full extent of damage and reviewing safety measures to prevent future incidents.
