The nomination process for the Telangana municipal elections ended with a huge turnout of candidates. A total of 28,456 nomination papers were submitted for 2,996 wards in urban local bodies, including municipalities and municipal corporations. The filing window closed on January 30, marking the end of the deadline period.
According to the State Election Commission, many nominations came in on the last day, pushing the count close to thirty thousand. These nominations include candidates from major political parties, smaller parties and independent hopefuls. The nomination phase is followed by scrutiny on January 31, during which election officials check eligibility and paperwork. Candidates whose nominations are rejected can appeal by February 1. After appeals, withdrawal of nominations will be allowed until February 3.
Once the withdrawal period ends, the Commission will publish the final list of candidates who will contest in the elections. Polling day for municipal bodies is scheduled for February 11, with results expected shortly after. These elections will decide representatives in urban local governing bodies across the state, shaping local leadership for the coming years.
