The first phase of the Telangana Gram Panchayat Elections 2025 has reached a key milestone. This Saturday — November 29 — is the final day for candidates across the state to file their nomination papers. Thousands of villagers are contesting for hundreds of sarpanch and ward-member posts.
Once nominations close, candidates wishing to pull out may withdraw by December 3. The election schedule, published by the Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC), sets the first phase of voting on December 11. Polling will run from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with vote counting the same day after 2:00 p.m.
In this round, nearly 4,300 villages and over 37,400 wards are involved. The exercise will elect sarpanches and ward members who will lead local governance in rural areas.
This election marks a return to grassroots democracy after delays. For many rural communities, the upcoming polls represent a chance for new local leadership and a voice in governance.
