Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, also holding the Disaster Management portfolio, recently led a comprehensive review of cyclone preparedness across the state. During a virtual meeting with district collectors and disaster officials, she urged heightened vigilance and robust coordination between the Home Department, Disaster Management Authority, and local administrations.
Minister Anitha emphasised the need to activate district control rooms, ensure uninterrupted communication lines, and deploy personnel and resources in potentially affected zones. Districts such as Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Kurnool, and Nandyala were specifically identified as high-risk areas, requiring special monitoring of canals, streams, and coastal points.
Fishermen, farmers, and residents in low-lying zones were encouraged to avoid venturing into vulnerable areas unless essential. Public safety campaigns and early warning mechanisms via mobile alerts and IVRS calls were mandated to inform communities promptly.
The minister underscored the importance of protecting critical infrastructure like power lines and transport routes, and ensuring seamless coordination with NDRF and SDRF teams for timely rescue and relief operations. With Andhra Pradesh’s disaster management mechanisms strengthened after previous cyclones like Hudhud, the state aims to proactively mitigate risks and safeguard lives and property.
