Vijayawada’s Gandhi Hill is getting a major upgrade. With an investment of about ₹90 crore, the hilltop site will be transformed into a global tourist and cultural attraction. Spanning 18 acres, Gandhi Hill holds India’s first Gandhi memorial on a hilltop and draws thousands of visitors.
Phase one has already brought many improvements: a 43‑metre lift for easy access, a scenic viewpoint, revamped gardens with colourful plants, children’s playgrounds, better toilets, and civil works. Even the old toy train is being revived.
Looking ahead, the second phase will add new amenities including a modern planetarium for science and astronomy lovers, a fine arts academy, guest rooms, a library, and a large convention hall. Replicas of important Gandhi sites like Sabarmati Ashram, Sevagram, and Gandhi’s house in Porbandar will be renovated to enhance historical and cultural value. These upgrades aim to double daily visitors from about 5,000 to nearly 10,000.
The project speaks of blending tourism, heritage, and education. Once complete, Gandhi Hill is expected to be more than a memorial—it will be a lively space for learning, art, leisure, and cultural exchange in Andhra Pradesh.
