Visakhapatnam authorities permitted YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to travel via road to Anakapalli. Yet, they denied him the right to hold a public roadshow. The police explained that allowing a roadshow would pose risks to public safety and worsen traffic disruption, especially during an ICC Women’s World Cup match in the city.
The Anakapalli Superintendent of Police said that the requested 63‑kilometre route from the airport to Makavarapalem could not be secured on short notice. He pointed to possible large crowd mobilization at key junctions. The police also warned that such gatherings would hamper emergency services and essential traffic flow.
YSRCP leaders countered that they only requested security, not formal permission, and accused the police of obstructing Jagan’s visit. They insisted that Jagan will proceed with the visit as planned. But law enforcement held firm, citing recent incidents like the Karur stampede, and insisted that their decision was necessary to prevent chaos.
Thus, Jagan may arrive by road within his convoy, but any mass promotional rally or procession along the route will not be allowed.
