Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar honoured 1,446 police personnel at a special awards event in Banjara Hills. The ceremony, held at the Telangana State Integrated Command and Control Centre, celebrated officers’ dedication, performance, and service to the community. For the first time, the city police introduced the “Extra Mile” Awards to highlight personnel who demonstrate exceptional work beyond their routine duties.
The awards included 271 Extra Mile honours and 1,175 Good Work Done awards. Officers recognised ranged from senior ranks like deputy and assistant commissioners to inspectors, sub-inspectors, head constables, constables, home guards, ministerial staff, and public prosecutors.
Addressing the gathering, Sajjanar said that policing is not just a job but a social responsibility. He encouraged officers to act with accountability, innovation and empathy, especially when interacting with the public. He noted that trust grows when police go beyond merely completing tasks and focus on reassuring and supporting victims.
Sajjanar also said that the recognition programme will continue, with monthly zonal awards for station house officers, sub-inspectors and constables who perform well. The initiative aims to motivate the force and foster a culture of excellence and commitment in Hyderabad’s policing system.
