In a significant policy update, Andhra Pradesh’s Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu has publicly assured that all irrigation projects in the Rayalaseema region will be allocated sufficient water to meet agricultural and drinking needs. The announcement reinforces the state’s commitment to overcoming the perennial water scarcity faced by drought-prone districts such as Kurnool, Ananthapur, Kadapa, and Chittoor.
Highlighted among the priority schemes are the Handri‑Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project—where water release commenced on July 10, 2025—as well as the Godavari‑Banakacherla interlinking and Polavaram projects, which will channel surplus floodwaters to stabilize irrigation across Rayalaseema. These efforts are aligned with the administration’s broader objective to “ irrigate every acre” through strategic river interlinking.
Minister Ramanaidu emphasised that the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, which has already diverted 428 TMC of Godavari water into the Krishna River, is being further leveraged to support Rayalaseema’s water needs, alongside restoration and modernisation of defunct lift schemes.
His pledge follows renewed focus on completing legacy irrigation works under the TDP government—reviving critical infrastructure neglected in prior years—thereby stabilizing ayacut and enhancing water governance in the region.
